hi! We've a live Win2003 AD environment and we're planning to migrate the
current setup to a new domain which is also running on Win2003r2 AD (with
different domain name). What is the best approach of moving the user
acccounts, OU and etc over? I would like to have the user, computers accounts
working concurrently for both domain, is that possible?

Thanks.

Hello dkblee,

Will you migrate the users to the other domain or will you work with both
domains just connected together to access resources? Migration means at the
end you have only one domain and the other option is to create a trust and
keep both domains.

hi! Eventually there will only be one domain. I'm thinking of is there a
better way that i can migrate the existing user over to the newly setup
domain rather than do it manually in the new domain? Initially i'm thinking
of re-creating the user accounts in the new domain and all the svrs
(migrating to virtual platform - the current svrs will be running
concurrently until everything is switch over) or pcs will be join to the new
domain manually.

What would be the recommendation? thanks.

Hello dkblee,

Forget to ask, there is no SBS version in one of the domains running?

If you will end in one domain use ADMT to migrate them:
v3.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

v3.1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Before using it in the prodcution domains try it out in a lab, to get familiar
with the steps and see where you find problems. Also make sure that both
domains are healthy before starting, use the support tools dcdiag, netdiag
and repadmin or replmon(GUI version) from the support\tools\suptools.msi
from the 2000/2003 installation disk.

Best regards
