article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/312403 says to disable
distributed link tracking service when upgrading domain to 2003 from 2000.
My questions are

1 - does doing this affect how excel & word manage links as indicated in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328440

2 - can the dlt server service simply be disabled without performing the
cleanup if space saving is not an issue ?

thanks,

Hello steve,

Excel and work doesn't use DLT, so no effect. We link documents in Excel
and Word with others without any problems and DLT isnot enabled.

Of course you can just disable the service and keep the information in AD
database, but why? If not used any longer, clean it up as described.

Best regards
