If Outlook is installed used/opened at least once(necessary to create the profile and *.pst file)in the same Windows user profile,
then WLM can export messages to Outlook
- File/Export/Messages/<choose Exchange> and follow the instruction/prompts

Contacts can be exported and saved in a *.csv file in WLM. Outlook can import contacts from the saved *.csv file

Outlook doesn't support newsgroup without a 3rd party client.

WLM and Outlook can co-exist on the same machine. Only one can be default(if using Outlook , make Outlook the default).

You may want to retain WLM rather than delete/remove since it does have the ability, unlike Outlook, to read *.eml and *.nws files

New laptop with Win 7. Started using WLM. Now have installed Office,
including Outlook. Would prefer to use Outlook instead of WLM. Can the two
co-exist or can I delete WLM? Any special tricks to transitioning? Any
online sources that explain how best to do the migration? Thanks.

The two can co-exist.

A few key points..
WLM can export messages to Outlook(the latter needs to be installed and run at least once to setup the OL profile and create the
*.pst file to accept the export)
Outlook can not export messages to WLM
WLM can not import messages from Outlook

Note: If you wish Outlook to setup a Hotmail account using the http protocol(all folders mirrored from the web similar to WLM http
for a Hotmail account) then the Outlook Connector must be installed. The Outlook Connector is only available for OL03/07. The
alternative for Hotmail in OL is to setup the Hotmail account using the pop3 protocol.

Once all your messages are in Outlook, WLM can be removed***
****Outlook does not have a newsreader, thus if WLM is removed, you'll have to use another(3rd party) or install a 3rd party
add-in for Outlook.

That's interesting. Wonder why they did that?

The option was present in WLM12, then removed in WLM14...iirc, due to problems with importing from Outlook.

Sounds like the WLM team could use some smarter coders. :-)

Not sure if we ever were informed of the exact cause of the problem.
