Hi everybody!
I've just bought a new PC with windows Vista Home Basic pre-installed and
I'd like to recover my outlook mail and contacts.
I used Genie backup manager to do that but then I discovered that Outlook
Express don't exhist anymore on the new o.s.
So I get back to my old pc running windows XP professional sp2 and I think I
started an easy transfer of the MSN messenger and outlook express. All seemed
to get well.
I saved that file on an external hard disk then I attached him on the new pc
running vista.
But VISTA searches for a .MIG file, while I got an .UNC file from the
migration tool I found on Windows Xp!
I'm desperate. Can anybody help me? I'm such in a mess! :-(
Thank you, bye

Hi! Thank you for the answers but they didn't solve my problem.
Can anybody explain to me why the migration tool found on my Windows XP
professional (I discoered it's called migwiz.exe) creates an .UNC file
instead a .MIG file as requested from the same program on the new Vista Pc?
I'm very confused and desperate. I need my email! Please help me, thanks a
lot.

FRANK

(I've read all the topics you showed me, thanks)

Hi!
Thank you so much. But I wanted to recover the mail message as well, not
only the addresses, and that way I think I could recover only them.
I use multiple accounts even for my family, so I'd love to recover all the
accounts settings, the mail messages and the addesses as well, so I've just
copied the identitites folder and I'm trying that way now! Wish me luck. This
is the third time I try different ways to migrate my settings! I begin to
hate Vista... :-P
Anyway the easy transfer method suggested by microsoft (and called migwiz)
is exporting an .IMG (unc was the suffix of the folder containing the file)
file, but the easy transfer process on Vista asks for .MIG file.
Why? Would it suffice to rename the suffix? I'm very confused.
Bye :-)
