Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clea
version
of Vista Home Premium

It came back with a user name of 'test'

I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the use
name
in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE\test"

In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE\tes

In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette

The computer name shows as "BobLafayette.
Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer.

How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely
"BobLafayette"? Without the "test"

Please use extreme details

Cordially

1. Change the computer name to whatever you want. Control
Panel>System>Advanced SettingsComputer(OK whatever UAC prompts you get).
You'll see the Computer Name tab and the button where you can change the
name. Reboot afterwards. This link has pictures and clear instructions:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

2. Create two new users by going to Control Panel>User Accounts. This link
has clear instructions:

http://vistasupport.mvps.org/create_...er_profile.htm

a. Computer Administrator account which you will only use for elevation
purposes. You will not use this account for daily work and may never even
log into it after doing item #2 below. Call it something like "CompAdmin"
or "Tech".

b. Log into the new CompAdmin account and create a Standard User account
called "Bob" which you will use for your daily work. Still in CompAdmin and
Control Panel>User Accounts, delete the Test/BOBLAFAYETTE account that HP
made you. Delete the files, too.

Now log into your new Bob account and take it from there.

Thanks again

I tried your suggestion. It did not work. ( I had tried it earlier
too before you suggested

In Control Panel>System> Advanced System Settings (System properties
Computer name is Bob's Computer. This is OK

Under "full computer name" the name is LAFAYETTE, this is OK

But
Control Panel>System> Advanced System Settings > (System properties
Hardware User Profile, the name is "LAFAYETTE\test".

Only one user shows with no way to delete or copy "LAFAYETTE\test"

And in Task Manager (on taskbar, right click) > processes> user name i
either 'LAFAYETTE\test', test, or SYSTEM or NETWORK, depending on how
set view for Task Manager

I wish to have only LAFAYETTE as user (understanding SYSTEM OR NETWOR
IS ACCEPTABLE, as applicable

Please advise suggestions

LAFAYETTE is the computer name. Test is the user name. This is normal.

Don't know where you're looking. You add or remove users either in the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel or under Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Computer Management>Local Users and Groups.

Again, the LAFAYETTE\test is ComputerName\UserName. SYSTEM and NETWORK are
system users. Don't worry about them and leave them alone.

LAFAYETTE is apparently the computer name. It is bad practice to have a
computer name that is the same as a user name. You apparently don't have a
user account called LAFAYETTE. So either change the computer name and
create a user account called Lafayette or leave the computer name alone and
make a new user to replace "test".
