I am sorry if this has been posted before but search does not produce any
results. I have 30 shortcuts on my desktop. When I right click my desktop
and select sort by name then it sorts starting with "computer" and then
finishes with "SILKYPIX " and then starts again with "Capture One" and
finishes with "zInternet"
I hope this is clear. Thank you.

Have you more than one language installed on vista that is latin based
alphabet?

In other words do you have more than one keyboard language?

If this is so, windows always sorts different languages that way.

It was like that in XP too

Hello Jim,

The Desktop is comprised of 2 "parts". The first part is the All Users
Desktop which holds all the shortcuts that are on the desktop of each user
account on the computer. The second part holds all links specific to an
individual user account.

Anything that is installed for All Users will appear in the first "part".
Anything that is installed just for the currently logged-on user will be in
the second "part".

So, you end up with them sorted A-Z, A-Z.

This was a good post. Why can't all your posts be like this? You didn't
bash Vista like normal.

Open the Desktop folder. Switch to Details View. Click on the header you
want to sort by.

Hello Jane,

Thank you:-) I am sorry that I did not reply earlier. I checked the
properties of my desktop items and you are correct. I now have to find out
why Vista installs some programs for "All users" and some only for my
account. I can see some of the benefits of UAC but mostly it is just a pain
in a norty word.

Hi Jim,

It all depends on the installation routine for the program as to whether it
will install for All Users or just the current user. Some programs will
give you the choice during install to specify "All Users of this computer"
or "Just Me". Others install automatically for everyone, and some just for
the current user.

Unwanted icons can be removed from All Users desktop - this will get the UAC
prompt, as All Users is system-wide.
