I miss the satisfaction of solving Vista problems...

Those who encounter issues, crashes, incompatibilities,
and worse post here and get help solving their problems.
It's satisfying to learn how to deal with an OS issue,
and it's ego-building to begin helping others who face
the same challenge.

Unfortunately, such satisfaction is denied me -- after a
bit of adaptation, my edition of Vista Home Premium
chugs away faultlessly. Reading about the woes of others
makes me wonder what I'm doing right - or what they're
doing wrong.

My experience is shared by friends that use Vista with
no real understanding but they carefully read the user
guides. To them and to me, it's a stable OS that has
solved a lot of problems. The complainers are those
trying to use freeware apps that the authors stopped
supporting in the 1990s...

You still have a problem. vista is stupid design and even without bugs its
horrid.. HOWEVER...

how about installing some real programs and using the pc to some real work
instead of playing solitaire?

you will run into problems, vista is crap.

Many in these newsgroups report success running Windows Vista.

Others may even respond that you and your friends do not really use
your computers or do not run real programs.
Those mistakenly ASSUME others who have success are doing something
wrong since they themselves are unable to achieve the same success.
They may even ASSUME you "you will run into problems", they are simply
unable to comprehend others succeed where they fail so the fault must
be in your success.

Windows Vista works well for me on two older computers.
Glad to hear it works well for you and your friends.

I have local clients quite happily running Vista. All were XP users and none
want to make the step back to XP..

Ditto here for me too - no problems using Vista.

This machine is strictly business, with Office07,
Autocad (-), connectivity, and a few other apps open at
any given moment, plus a full tray of "stuff". It's used
for online research and technical writing, and works
perfectly.

On this unit, I do NOT experiment with unusual apps,
games, images, websites, etc.

Come to think of it, why isn't there a folder of games
on this laptop?

If it's the Business version of Vista, they're disabled by default for
whatever reason. Go to your Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn
Windows Features On or Off > then put a checkmark in the Games folder.
They'll install themselves.

I believe there is an actual forum for praise, as well as dissatisfaction,
but this is not it. A post, merely to smugly state one's accomplishments, or
to bash products and other user's capabilities, is best left for "chat
rooms." This site is a vital resource to many thousands of Microsoft users
around the world.

So please, if you cannot post constructively, logon to AOL instead.

Ike's post is right "on target" and lets those who may be actually having
problems know that there are those who run flawlessly and are satisfied.

Those with problems then know that they can, if they persevere, have a
stable operating system also - hardware and software permitting
