Since I upgraded to Windows Live 2011 those angle brackets in my
newsgroup replies have disappeared, while other people's show.
How can I bring them back?

Harry.

You can't bring these (>) back. MS did away with them in WLMail 2011. If
you see them in other peoples posts, they're not using WLMail 2011 as a
newsreader.

That's fine, Bruce, but how do I distinguish my answer from the previous
post(s)?
I've tried moving to the right 5 spaces or so.
But sometimes I forget.
Is there another solution? <H>.

You'll just have to get in the habit of inserting a spearator of your own.
Something like a hyphen line.
---------------------------------------------------------

Or use a different program for news. FWIW, I didn't use WLMail for news at
all since the option to automatically get new news posts when checking for
e-mail every XX minutes was not continued. This is a Win7 machine and I
use Vista's Windows Mail for news, and Thunderbird for mail.

This situation is where top posting becomes preferred.
It's hard to mistake that this is the new text, as opposed to what follows.

Go back to WLM 2010 (version 14), if you can find it from a place you
trust. Or remember to do your own insertion of ">" for proper indenting
of the quoted content (and watch the line length stays under 76 or 72
characters in length). Or use a different newsreader. Or wait until
and *if* Microsoft decides to provide an update to v15. Or wait until
the 2012 version to reinstate what Microsoft had in the v15 beta but
dropped in the v15 release.

From my reading, it isn't just newsgroup posts but also e-mail posts.
Microsoft screwed up by removing the quoting when using plain-text
format for your replies. If HTML is used then the DIV tag is used to
provide the vertical bar to show indentation of quoted content. That's
okay for e-mails by going to HTML format but not for Usenet where it is
considered rude to use HTML format (i.e., use plain text in Usenet).

Some of us went straight from Windows XP to Windows 7, bypassing Windows
Vista, and missing Windows Mail. I use 40tude Dialog for news, and Pegasus
Mail for email.

I did too. I just snatched a msoe.dll file off a friend's Vista machine.
