Missing backup files - error 0x8100000A

Running Vista Ultimate. I inadvertantly removed the folder containing my
FILE BACKUPS. My FULL BACKUP folder is intact however. When I attempt to do
a FILE BACKUP I receive the following message: "The latest backup cannot be
found. Make sure it is accessible and it has not been deleted. Otherwise,
create a new full backup. (0x8100000A)."

My choices are: Try Again, Close, Adjust settings.

Try again results in the same error. The backup program attempts to run but
fails immediately because no previous [FILE] backup exists. The FULL BACKUP
does exist but in a different folder, WindowsImageBackup. This error message
asks me to create a new FULL BACKUP which I have since done. I still cannot
create a FILE BACKUP however as that folder remains deleted. How do I get
out of this mess. My FULL BACKUP process works fine. There must be a way
for Windows to create a FILE BACKUP without one already there as it did the
very first time I ran the backup. Deleting the one and only backup results
in this error. HELP!

Since you are running Ultimate, you have two types of backups--Complete PC
(image-based) and File (file-based). File backups are full the first time
and then incremental subsequent times (until logic kicks in and advises you
to create a new full backup). This type of "full" backup should not be
confused with a Complete PC backup.

From what I can tell in your message, you need to create a new (full) file
backup, not a Complete PC backup. Does that make sense? There is a checkbox
for creating a new full backup at the end of the wizard where you change
backup settings.

That was it. Thanks Jill. I did confuse the two types of backups. My
"complete" File backup is underway.

Hi Clint,
How would one fix this issue when running Vista Home Premium?

and...I need small words and lots of details...I'm not very techy. These
functions were running fine for over a year, and now they are not. Can't
figure out how to create a new full back up, and the scheduled back up won't
complete due to this error.

Jill, I went to all sorts of "fixes" before i found yours. It was so
simple i had to laugh (after hours of frustration). the only thing I
can say is, "I love you man."

Backup is running beautifully now.
