Hi,

Does anyone know how to recreate the "Documents" or "Music" default folders
under "User"? Mine were never created when I upgraded from XP to Vista.

thanks

Hi Sean,

They should be under C:\Users\<surename>\

Is there any chance that you moved them? They can be remapped, but should
still show as a special folder in the explorer tree.

Right click in the User folder, click New > Folder, name the folder Music
for example, open it. Click Organize Properties > Customize > click in the
"Use this folder type as a template:" list box and choose Music Details.

Follow the same steps for creating a Documents folder.

In the 'Start Search' box on the Start Menu, type:

shellersonal<Enter>

That should open the folder that Vista thinks is your 'Documents' folder.
If a folder opens, click once in the Breadcrumbs bar to view its actual path
& name. Use the 'Restore Default button on the 'Location' tab in the
folder's Properties dialog to move it back into your UserProfile folder. If
you receive an error message, try logging off & back on & try
'shellersonal' again -- sometimes the 2nd try recreates it. If not, post
back -- there're other ways to get it back.

For the 'Music' folder, try the same thing, only using 'shell:my music'
instead.

If you receive errors on the second trys of these commands, run the
following commands from a command prompt window & post the output of each.
(each command is one long line)

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\User
Shell Folders" /v personal

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\User
Shell Folders" /v "my music"
