The Windows\system32\DriverStore folder should be far from empty. Are you
sure this is the case? On my computer, the DriverStore folder has almost
9000 files in 595 folders. I don't think, either, that the System File
Checker will restore those files. Can you re-install Vista, using the
Upgrade option? This will maintain your user settings and programs. See
