Whenever I try to update Windows, it says I'm missing files, and to download
them. So, I click download files, and when I go to update, I get the same
error message. Anyone help????????

Re-install Windows Update files
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x86.exe

Note If you have an x64-based computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x64.exe

Click Save in the File Download-Security Warning dialog box, and then select the
location where you want to save the file.
Double-click the file that you saved

Note that if it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed.", run the exe with the command line switch /wuforce, like
this:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

Do I type WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
into the run column on the start menu?

I saved it in My Documents, but it still says, "Install is not needed since
Windows Update Agent is
already installed." What should I do?

Exactly how did you launch it? By double-clicking? Or manually launching
from a command prompt window? What parameters did you type after the
command name?

Click Start, select Run and type in: CMD
You should get a black dialog box with C:\documents and settings\user name
Now type: cd "my documents" Note with the quotes
You should have now: C:\documents and settings\username\my documents
This is where you should have saved the file in Zach's my documents.
Now type:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

HI,

I've got the same problem and have followed the instructions on downloading
the windowsupdateagent20-x86.exe file. Done all that even running it from the
CMD screen with the /wuforce addition.

When trying Windows Update I still get the same error
"Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or
installed on your computer. "

wo options "To continue:"
* Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
* Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem

Option 1) Downloads some files but then returns to the same error.
Option 2) doesn't get me anywhere.....

Anyone have any suggestions? Don't wanna hear "Do a format C: and reinstall
Windows" ;-)

Cheers guys
