I just got this new laptop, with Vista home premium installed and I'm really confused by a couple things and can't seem to find any answers anywhere else I'm hoping someone will take pity on this admitted vista newb, and help get me pointed in the right direction. First off, program compatibility problems. I've transferred a couple of programs from my old XP machine that ran just fine until I got them into Vista, I've tried every option in the compatibility wizard, and in the properties tab for the individual programs, including running in admin mode. When I try to run the .exe files, the computer asks for permission to run the file, and when I click on "Allow" the screen flickers (like it's changing the screen resolution) and simply returns to show the explorer window. No error message, no "couldn't run because..." message, it just shows nothing, almost as if I had never even tried to run the program.
The second problem I'm having is finding files/folders that I know are on the hard drive, but windows explorer (or whatever it's called now) won't show them, or even find them in a search. I have already selected the "show hidden files/folders" in the control panel and still nothing shows up.. I know the files and folders are there because when I browse the directory using another program, such as word, the files and folders appear, but this doesen't help as the files aren't word files, so I still can't access them.
I know these are probably simple problems with simple solutions, but I haven't been able to get help anywhere, and I'm hoping someone out there just might be able to help. Thanks in advance for any tips/tricks/advice fore this total vista newb.
