I recently attempted to resize the partitions on my HD, but use
Partition Magic 8 which I found out later to be incompatible with m

as primary partitions in Vista's Disk manager, but I can't restore the

I had a brief look around on this site, but couldn't find a suitabl

I've tried using Active File Recovery for Windows, but all I can d

Nope that doesn't work

Comes up with "Could not find boot sector" for both the missing drives

Delete the partitions that are there. Create new partitions and make certain
that they are formatted.

The partitions are likely corrupted beyond recovery by using a partitioning
program that does not understand the current NTFS file system. Acronis Disk
Director does and works fine.

Some of the Hard Disk manufacturers provide very good disk managers that
you can download for free. You don't say what brand you have, but check
online.

Since I couldn't find a solution, I went for a full format-reinstall...
after backing up all the important stuff onto an external hard drive.

Moral of the story:
Check compatibility before using a program that can mess with your
system...

Though I guess I did get to resize my partitions as I'd originally
wanted...

Or have a good backup strategy and consistently stick to it. If you
had backed up your entire system to another internal drive or to
external media, you wouln't have had to do that.

And you wouldn't have had to reinstall everything after installing
Vista.
