Across the top of the LIve Messenger screen, where there are usually several
clickable buttons, several are missing. I just have the first two, open
your email box, and view your sharing folders. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled with no joy.

Thanks,

Don L.

Mine disappeared some days ago, with only the mail let, but now shared
folders, spaces and Live Today.

I just use the mail, so didn't worry.
However, I'd say the existence of that icons depend on external sources, so
I guess there's nothing you can do about it, just hope they'll be back one
day!

I guess my problem isn't really the missing icons, but I seem to be missing
functionality as well. For example, I have entered mobile numbers for most
of my contacts, but I only have the option to send a text message to one of
them. I can't figure out why this is. I thought it was related to the
missing buttons, but I really don't care about the buttons. I would like to
be able to send text messages to those who are offline. Even though most of
them have a mobile number entered, I can't send text to most of them. The
option is not even there.

I just noticed, in Tools, Options, the "Phone" item on the left is missing.

Greetings,

When you sign into Messenger, it connects to a web configuration service which determines
what services and features are available to you.
If it can't connect to this service, then a good number of the icons won't show up and their
features will be missing.

If it just started by itself, it could just be a temporary problem on Microsoft's side, but
if it's been persisting for awhile it's more likely due to a software firewall blocking the
connection to the web service, in which case you'll need to go in and configure it to give
Messenger the necessary permission.

OK, great. We don't use a software firewall. We have a hardware firewall.
I have found software configuration info that explains how to point to
messenger as an allowed program. I have not been able to find info on how to
open up a hardware firewall for live messenger, and all of these additional
features.

What ports or access do I need to allow?

Thanks,

Don L.

Hi Don,

The configuration service just needs port 80 and 443, standard web ports.
