I wanted to change my destination location for the "My Music" folder to be an
external hard drive, since I am a professional musician and my music takes up
a great deal of space. However, something strange has happened so I now
cannot open my Itunes folder, and when I click on the "My Music" folder there
is NOTHING--all of the tabs that had previously been there are gone, and it
just has the general tab with o bytes. My music is still on the computer (I
can find it under my name...music) but I cannot figure out how to restore the
link from the "My Music" to this. I would appreciate any help!!

Hi mommy--

I'm betting, although I don't know for sure, that your difficulty may be
becaue you upgraded to Vista from Windows XP, but maybe not. I've seen that
happen.

To increase your chances to see all folders, type "control folders" in your
run box>View tab>radio button into entry "show all hidden folders" and take
the check out of "Hide all Windows folders">apply>okay. You can go to the
same place, and change back to default when you're finished with this.

Type "music" without the quotes in the search box above the Start button
and right click it when it pops up>properties. That should give you the
location of the music folder right on the music properties dialogue box.

Find the name you've given your pc by typing winver into the run box or
hitting the windows key +pause break key.

If you type itunes into the search box above your Start Button, you will get
an entry when that search populates that will be Itunes Music Library under
the heading "Music."

Right click the item that shows up in the search "Itunes Music Library" and
you'll get the file path
C:\users\your computer name\Music\Itunes.

That should be where the music files are. You'll see several entries when
you type that file path into the IE address bar or the run box or any
explorer window address bar.

Once you locate the music folder, follow the steps here to change the target
location of your music folder to the drive letter that your external HD has
assumed.

Good luck,

Hello HappyMommy,

If you are trying to open this folder from within iTunes, then you may
need to change the settings in iTunes to have the new path of the Music
folder instead if availanle in iTunes.

Using OPTION THREE in the tutorial below, check to make sure that you
have the correct path set for your "Music" (My Music in registry)
folder.

You can also double check with this tutorial to see if you have changed
the location properly to.

Hope this helps,
Shan
