Aloha all.
I just installed 2GB of RAM in my Vista laptop (2x1GB, upgraded from
2x512MB). When I check, it says I only have about 1900MB, instead of the
full 2GB. Did I get bad memory, or is this normal?
Thanks!

Notebook computers have a video adapter that shares
memory with the installed RAM. A certain amount of
your installed RAM is being allocated to the video adapter.

Chances are that the deficit is being allocated to the displa
driver..

Almost certainly the difference is because you have shared video
memory on the motherboard (probably 128MB) rather than having a
separate video card with its own on-board memory. This is almost
always the case with laptops.

You probably didn't check before, but back when you thought you had
1GB, you only had 896MB (1024 - 128).

Would this be the same with a MB which has onboard video?
