I recently received my Windows Home Vista Premium CD with that HP upgrade kit
thing, where you buy a Windows XP computer, and you'll get windows vista
shipped to you. Okay so, when i installed it, i was excited, because it
looked pretty cool and stuff. And like, after a couple shut downs and turning
on the computer, it goes to the HP boot screen thing when you turn on the
computer, and then it goes into a blank screen, and it says "missing
operating system." i was confused, so i just reinstalled Vista. The same
thing happened after a few shutdowns. All in all, i've reinstalled about 7
different times, and ive tried to call for hp technicle support, but im a
really impatient teenager. So can somebod help me out with this message, or
lead to somewhere where i can?

A few more details could help, but that message could result if your bios is
not set to boot from your hard drive, and you have no bootable cd or floppy
in a drive.

Okay, this is exactly what happened to me. Microsoft and HP say to have the
BIOS 3.11 upodate and Vista will work fine. Problem is, my computer shows it
HAS BIOS 3.11. I reinstalled Vista four times to have it wipe my computer
evey time. When running XP, all works great.

"Missing operating system" or "no operating system found" indicates that the
HD is not being detected.

Uusually (99.9% pure) it is a BIOS problem. HP (and probably others)
designated units "Vista capable" (note not Vista ready) on the basis
necessary drivers, BIOS updates, etc. would be available when Vista would
be available.

Having said that - You received a second disk, along with Vista, with the
necessary "updates" and BIOS update. You make no mentiuon of having
installed the drivers and updates prior to installing Vista - did you do
so?
