Missing Task Bar/Start Menu

Can someone tell me why my task bar/start menu has gone missing? It appears
all the processes are running. It is not in hidden mode, and the windows
key on my keyboard does not bring up the start menu anymore. Gateway
support told me I need to reload Vista, and I'd rather shoot myself than do
that and go through all the pain of getting the right drivers loaded all
over again.

Any suggestions?

Hi Tim,

Does this happen in all user profiles or just yours?

Try deleting this registry key, then rebooting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2

(just the stuckrects2 key, nothing else beside or above it).

Thanks Roger,
I removed StuckRects2, but it did not fix it. But I created a guest
account, and the task bar/start menu works fine on that account. So is this
an user account issue?

Given the above, what is your advice on how I can fix my user account?

Hi,

Yes, it's a user account issue and that key I had you delete was the one
that normally contains the information about each user's taskbar settings.
After removing it, did you reboot?

Yes Rick, I rebooted after deleting it. After doing so, I now see two
values in StuckRects2:
(Default) type: REG_SZ
Settings type: REG_BINARY

But still no taskbar.. any other ideas? Is there a way to move one user's
account to a new account?
