Missing Windows Update KB947449 Post Vista Updates

O/S and Windows Update Settings:
Vista Ultimate(SP1 is not installed)
Windows Update configuration:
- Notify(Check for Updates but let me choose)
- Recommended Updates(checked to include recommended updates)
- Update service(checked to use Microsoft Update)


After installing offered pre Sp1 updates 938371 restarting, and running Vista's 'Windows Update\Check for Updates' the update for
KB947449 is no longer offered, though as expected 937287 was offered and installed, Vista restarted, recheck for updates- no change.

- as near as I can tell The Kb article appears to be of no help and only applicable to XP.

Updates 938371 and 937287 were installed using Vista' s Windows Update install now option(after Notification, not automatically).
The latter was only offered(as expected) after installing 937287.

It's my current understanding that 947449 is supposed to be offered(as other Live updates) if Microsoft Updates are toggled on in
Vista settings thus the following tried so far without success.
a: toggled off the option to use Microsoft Update, restarted, toggled on again, rechecked for updates - no impact
b. removed existing Windows Live Sign-In Assistant, reran Vista's Check for Windows Updates- not offered.
- Sign Assistant application was removed via Vistas Programs and Features(no latter Sign-Update was present in installed
updates)
c. reinstalled Windows Live Sign-Assistant, reran Vista's Check for Windows Updates- not offered
- reinstalled using the universal Windows Live Installer
d. repeated (b) as above, and ( c) with slight modification[used Sign-In Assistant *.msi file)- no impact.

It is possible that neither 938371 or 937287 caused the issue and Windows Update is not up to snuff, though it did provide notice of
937287.
Unless 947449 was pulled, can' think of next step short of digging deeper into Windows Update.

Any comments, suggestions appreciated.

Yes. But on XP. I have no idea what Winston is seeing. I don't have Vista.
I'm just pointing out that if the article is written from an XP POV (as Winston
is claiming) that it isn't accurate; however, if his MU provides the same UI
as what I see, then perhaps he should try clicking on Software, Optional too...

Yes, I believe winston has "flipped" WU/AU in Vista to MU and has "Show
Optional Updates" enabled. As MU offers updates for most Windows Live
applications (cf.
http://blogs.technet.com/mu/archive/...ct-family.aspx),
the update he seeks /should/ be offered.

However, knowing WL as we do, all I can say is, "YMMV!" <eg>

Hello Robert,
Vista's Windows Update UI is different that XP's.
Optional is not a selection.
The 2 default settings are
-How updates are deployed(auto, notify)
-Recommended
One can add a third option by enabling 'Get Updates for more products' which will add an 'Update Service section with one single
item -Microsoft Update.
As you know , Live Products are deployed via Microsoft Update.

As mentioned previously

Yes, that is correct.
I'm not too sure this is solely a Live Issue vs a corruption in my pc's Vista's Windows Update.
I've looked at another Vista machine with Vista's WU configured identical and it has the Sign-In Assistant *and* also an update for
Windows Live Toolbar(understandable- I don't have the ToolBar installed, though it must be full replacement at 52MB)

I've other options(neither of which addresses why WU no longer offers the update)
- restore an image made prior to installing the last two Sp1 updates kb938371/937287
(the Live update was present then)
- use the Microsoft Catalog to install kb 947449

PS: Manually upgrading to the latest version of WLMessenger should give you
