Modem Security Update Error

Ever since I downloaded and installed the Motorola SM56 Modem update from
Windows Update on December 12, 2004, I am getting the following error:

Every time I click on the connectoid to connect to the Internet I get a
message that "the connection cannot be completed because the wrong country
code is listed. Please insert the code for United States in the appropriate
blank."

The fact is that United States is already entered in the proper place on the
connection data sheet. If I simply cancel out this warning the modem
connects normally. However, I get this warning every single time, which is
quite frustrating.

What do I need to do to stop this warning from appearing? Prior to
installing the update the warning did not appear.

Computer is a Dell 8100 Dimension with Windows XP (SP2) and 384 mg memory.

Artie;
Is the modem also from Dell?
If so go to Dell and get the latest Windows XP driver for that modem.

In the future avoid getting hardware drivers from Windows Update.
Instead if Windows Update shows a newer driver and you have a need, go
directly to the hardware manufacturer.

I already have the Dell CD (came with the computer) that has the drivers for
the modem installed, and also allows one to reinstall it. However,
reinstalling the drivers and/or the modem has no effect upon the described
problem. The alert message continues to say "Cannot support this country
code, etc.,etc.

Artie;
Make sure at Dells website that you have the latest Windows XP drivers.
The driver CDs that ship, even on newer systems, often are a little behind.

Change the country code to something else, follow all prompts and reboot.
Then go back and change to the correct country code.
