Monitor distortion after loading SP 2

After loading SP2, icons on desktop were rearranged and the font and image
decreased in size and were distorted/stretched. Task bar displays were
shrunk in size and stretched. Internet images were shifted right and
stretched like mirrors in a fun house. Reset screen resolution in control
panel/settings to larger size but images were still stretched.
Uninstalled SP2 and after some minor monitor setting changes, fonts, icons
and images were back to normal.
I've got a (new) 17" Samsung Syncmaster 955DF monitor, Windows XP on an HP
Pavillion 7955.
Please offer suggestions...

Donna: I have a similar problem with my Sony Vaio with XP Home on it. I had
not connected it with the SP2 -and am unsure it began with SP2. Did you get
any helpful responses to your post?
