That's not a monitor issue.

Press "CTRL+SHIFT+ESC" at the same time and under the "processes" tab - find
and select 'explorer' and right-click it and "End Process". Do this until
you have ended all 'explorer' processes.

Then click on the "Applications" tab and click on the "New Task" button and
type in "Explorer.exe" and click OK. Did that bring everything back?

Might be this:
MSRC Blog: Reports of Issues with November Security Updates
http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archiv...y-updates.aspx

And here's an apology from Prevx:
http://www.prevx.com/blog/141/Window...oot-Cause.html

My suggestion is to get your system back and uninstall the last round of
updates. Then clean it up...

Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (separately) with the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall these products,
if you wish.

Download and run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

Reboot.

Come back and ask for directed help - meaning you provide some vital details
about your system...

First - please verify the exact edition, version and architecture of
Windows XP you have:

Press and hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and then press the
"Pause/Break" key. Let go of both. This is equivalent in Windows XP to
having right-clicked on the "My Computer" icon and chosen "Properties"
from the menu that appears. When the new window appears - ensure you are
under the "General" tab. Is there *anything* in there to indicate you
have a 64-bit version of Windows XP, like the words, "Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition Version"?

Next we will get the edition and version information...

Start button --> RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
--> type in:
winver
--> Click OK.

The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the general
(Operating System name and edition) while the line starting with the word
"version" will give you the rest of the story. Post _both_ in response
to this message verbatim. No paraphrasing - instead - ensure
character-for-character copying.

What version of Internet Explorer are you currently using? Easy to find
out. Open Internet Explorer and while that is in-focus, press and hold
the "ALT" key on your keyboard. With the "ALT" key still pressed, press
(just once, no holding) the "H" key. Now, with the "ALT" key still
pressed, press (just once, no holding) the "A" key. That will bring up
the "About Internet Explorer" window. It will give you the exact version
you are using - repeat what you see there in response to this message.

What antivirus product are you utilizing?

Do you have something replacing the built-in Windows XP firewall?

appreiciate the response I tried to get something to show up on the
moniter and cant get anything but the screen saver the mouse and a black
screen.

cant tell you exactly which version i have on the computer but i have 64bit
vista home premium with sp1 ( on the end of the edition on the windows
sticker it says OEMAct) and all the updates since i got the computer 9 months
ago. i have the serial number for it on the computer case but dont think
this is the forum to put that info on. I have avgfree antivirus and the
newest ie- 8? if i remember correctly. either 12/10 or 12/11 but if my
computer is on it downloads evrything automatically and usually it installs
and restarts fine- up til the latest batch that is.

I was hoping i could do something less drastic then format and reload the
software- i cn't remember where or if i got a disc or just the harddrive
partition to reinstall.

I thought if i could figure out a way- like maybe it told my videocard to
change to an unsupported screen size to fix it on a blank screen- ie- turn on
computer hit f2 and tell the computer to rollback to previous state and/or
fix from the d drive. hit f2 type D:run and even blind it would run fix from
the parttion lol silly me huh
