Monitor goes to sleep

Recently I have bought a gaming PC, and after a few hours of suc
gaming, my monitor goes to sleep, the PC is still running and I ca
still be playing my game... just without a monitor! The only way to ge
the monitor to work is to restart the PC

Any ideas what the problem could be? At first I suspected a
overheating Graphics card, but could it be other things? could it be
RAM problem? what could cause this? Has anyone else had this problem

I would like to make it very clear that it is not a problem with Vista
or its power settings, as the computer remains runnings. It is also ver
unlikely to be the monitor as I bought it new yesterda

Does this happen with just one particular game or any game?

ATM, the only game I have on there is World of Warcraft, but I do not
believe it to be a software fault

I would not be so quick to discount the monitor. Everyone knows that with
electronics if it works for the first week or two, the device will likely
last for a long time. In your case there could be a connection that is
breaking when the heat builds up in the monitor. Yes, flat panel monitors DO
generate some heat.

You did not complain about this happening with your previous monitor so I am
thinking that the problem is indicative of your new monitor.

Sounds like a problem with the new monitor. It possibility has an internal
overheating problem.
What resolution are you sending to it over what interface?
What is the make and model of the monitor?
Have you tried contacting the monitor manufacturers support staff?

Just had a thought... How could it be the monitor, when it only work
again when the PC is restarted? If it was the monitor, surely jus
unplugging and plugging it back in would do the trick

I was thinking that the monitor dropped the connection with the PC's
graphics due to a problem such as overheating and the graphics card does not
try again to talk to the monitor until the PC was restarted.
Were you also outputting 1600x900 to your old monitor? If you were
outputting a lower resolution to you older monitor then your thought that
your graphics card be overheating and then dropping off line due to using
too much power from your power supply.
