Monitor problems

Windows 98
After a reboot, the icons all grew large and colors were wrong (cannot see
all of them). Other web pages and document are grainy. You can not change
the icon size and the screen area cannot be changed. Device manages says the
right monitor driver is installed. I rebotted dozens of times. I changed
the colores from 16 to 2, rebooted, and back to 16, no change. I changed to
a different monitor, same problem.

Any Suggestions?

I've had the same problem with windows xp
After updating windows from this the microsoft site, and rebooting my
computer my screen resolution reverted to 16 colours, although the driver
appears to be working properly its the only thing that i can think of that's
malfuntioning
ideas?
