I *think* you meant that as a joke...but are you certain? Last time I put a
sniffer on the line Zone Alarm was still playing that game every time the
machine was booted (and of course not asking permission...)

Ethereal is dead. The developer of Ethereal (Gerald Combs) changed jobs but
his old employer owned the trademark of "Ethereal." He did take the project
with him, however, and it's now alive and well under the name "Wireshark."

Wireshark version 0.99.8 is the most recent stable distribution (documented
to support Vista although I've not tested that claim); download it through
the page at

Microsoft bought Winternals (which owned the Sysinternals utilities) in
2006. Much to the amazement of the user community Microsoft continues to
enhance and distribute the Sysinternals utilities from the free Technet
