I purchased an at&t 8525 (HTC) and I'm having the dreaded sync problems.
Very similar to the same setup as Peter Maddern in the earlier thread. I
had hoped his solution would work for me, but not so.

Laptop computer is a Compaq Presario v6000 with Windows XT pro, outlook 2003
and pop3 email.

I installed activesync 4.2 from the disc with the ppc and ran into the
85010014 error and spent 3 hours on the phone with at&t and htc reconfiguring
outlook, transferring profiles, installed activesync 4.5 and checking all the
settings...no success. HTC was supposed to call back but never did.

I've since been trying to get some help by going thru microsofts tech tips
etc. I'm no computer wiz so be patient please. This is highly frustrating
when something that should be so simple is so time consuming and difficult.
I have many hours over the course of 3 weeks into this already and no end in
sight.

So I had norton anti virus installed and based on the earlier thread I
uninstalled that and checked (and did not find) any stray files as
instructed, uninstalled and reinstalled activesync (both 4.2 and 4.5
versions) did a soft reset on the ppc and a reset on the laptop and came up
with the same error. I've tried everything I can think of and everything
that has been suggested...hopefully someone here can help? Calling Carl Wolz
- are you out there? I'm pasting my wceslog.log file below (the ms help site
suggested looking there) and I see errors there but I don't know how to fix
it or if that's the issue?

Some anti-virus software blocks access to Outlook's automation interface.

Have you tried re-installing or repairing Outlook, after uninstalling the
anti-virus software?

<geek>

ActiveSync is failing to open the Outlook Object Model dispatch interface..
There are typically two common failures here. The first one is if the
MAPI.dll was replaced by an install of another application. The second is a
virus blocking program. Some Anti-Virus software doesn't properly clean it's
self after uninstall, to check this, please follow the following steps.

a. On the desktop, click Start->Run

b. In the "Run" dialog, type "reedit"

c. This will launch the Windows Registry Editor

d. In the Treeview in the left pane, navigate to the following registry
key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{0006F03 A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

i. Once you've opened the CLSID note if you type "{0006F03A" it should
take you to the right entry

e. Expand the GUID node

f. Click on "InprocServer32" under the GUID node

g. You will see a value set in the "Data" field of the "(Default)"

h. It should read ole32.dll. This value should guide you to what
application has installed the

script blocking. For example, Norton AntiVirus puts in an entry like
this:

"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Symantec Shared\\Script

Blocking\\ScrBlock.dll"

</geek>
