More questions about backup!

First of all I want to thank you for answering my last question about backing
up files. I finally used the Windows Backup. It worked fine. After finishing
the backup I checked it and I found that the files were stored very "deep
inside" like under many layers of subdirectories. So my 1st question is why
is that?
The 2nd question is I save all my files (of any kind) all over the place
include desktop, My Documents, download, temp etc. Will the Windows Backup
will be able to get and backup all of them (especically those files on the
desktop)?
3rd question; will it backup .flv files? Because when I started to set up my
backup with the wizard, in the video files, it did include many kinds of
video files but .flv.
4th question; sync vs backup, what is the difference?
Thank you so much in advance and if you know any of these (even just one)
please let me know and I will really appreciate it!
Thanks!

It reflects the original way in which the file was located.

Should do, and in fact that is its main plus over other backup technologies.
It goes by extension, rather than by location eg if you select the
'Documents' category then anything with a .txt extension gets backed up
including those on your desktop.

You can do it, but you may need to play around with entries in the registry
under

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.flv

to 'trick' backup to putting it into the Videos category eg adding
'ContentType' and 'PerceivedType' entries similar to your other video
extensions. Only try this if you're comfortable with the registry.

There are also other simpler possibilities like renaming the files, adding
them to .zip folders (with the 'Compressed Files' option chosen), or
selecting the 'additional files' category etc.

Syncing is generally keeping 2 files in 2 different locations the same,
whereas backup copies from one location to the other.

Start > Help > Sync
Start > Help > Backup

should also help you out there
