First Windows Defender suddenly began refusing to install updates properly,
and it still doesn't unless I delete a certain file every single time I try
to update it. Microsoft has been fully aware of this widespread problem for
a while and hasn't fixed it. Now, in addition to this problem, the updates
to the Outlook Express junkmail filter has begun refusing to install. What
is happening to Windows Update, and should we expect to see additional
malfunctions in the future? And what is Microsoft doing about them?

1. Windows Defender is Beta
There is a separate newsgroup for Windows Defender Beta2
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...s/default.mspx

2. Many have had success in downloading the Outlook update manually

Have you recently run any form of registry cleaner, such as the one at
http://safety.live.com/ ?
Is it possible that this cleaner has removed more entries than it should
have done?
