More Windows update failures 0x80240020

Windows update has been failing since September, with an 0x80240020 error.
If I try to use the windows update site, I just found that I had 12 critical
updates to install.... these all failed with no real information as to why.
When I look in the windowsupdate.log, (having elected to just install the
first of the updates) I get.....

Trawling through this newsgroup has found lots of similar errors, but a
general consensus that "I have had this problem for a while, but none of the
solutions have worked". I tried downloading the SP2 update manually, but it
still failed to install.

Any ideas????
