Moto Q Activesync 4.2 over bluetooth

I cannot sync my Moto Q over Bluetooth with Activesync 4.2. It works over
USB, just not over Bluetooth. The two devices recognize each other on the
Bluetooth network.

On the Moto Q, under Activesync -> Menu -> Connect via Bluetooth -> Add i
can see my pc in the list. When I click add, the Moto Q sits forver saying
"Checking services..."

On the pc, i can see the Moto Q device listed in the Bluetooth devices
window. The only service I see under Properties -> Services is "Serial port
(SPP) 'Generic Serial'. Is there supposed to be an active sync service
listed here? Under the COM Ports tab, i can add an outgoing port, but not
an incoming port. Does that have anything to do with anything? I've tried
adding/removing the outgoing serial port to no avail. I've also tried
enabling/disable the "Serial port (SPP) 'Generic Serial' service to no
avail.

Any ideas how to fix? Thanks!

You'd see the ActiveSync service listed on the phone when setting up which
services of the PC to use. When you get that done, I think that you have to
create a new incoming serial port on the PC and set up ActiveSync to allow
connections via that port (you *do* have to set up AS to connect via that
port; it's just a question of whether you need to manually create the new
port).

It should not lock up scanning for services from the phone. If necessary,
drop the partnership and go back to the beginning. Set up the PC to be
discoverable and use the phone to discover it. Step from there. (Yes, I
did this last night).

Ok, I deleted everything and rediscovered...

Under Bluetooth Manager on the Moto Q, I still don't see Activesync as a
service. Should I see it here? If so, what do I need to do on the PC end
to fix it? This is What I see:

A Hands-free
B Personal Network
C Stereo Headset
D Keyboard Input
E Settings

I guess I'd have to see it on your device. When you partner with the PC
*from the Q*, you're getting that list of services provided by the PC? The
PC is running ActiveSync (it shows its grey circular icon in the system
tray)?

Yes, that list from below is the list of services that shows up on the Q
under "Bluetooth Manager". Is there a way to cross-reference this list of
services being provided on the PC?

Yes, I have a grey ActiveSync icon in the system tray on my PC.

On the PC, I've made some progress in that I now see an incoming port on
COM10 and an outgoing port on COM6 when I look in the "COM Ports" tab of
Bluetooth devices. Still, under devices -> Properties -> Services, only
"Serial port (SPP) 'Generic Serial' COM6" is the only service listed.

I think I found the problem. I found somewhere on the internet (after
exhaustive searching) that activesync won't work when the COM port is higher
than COM9. I reassigned the ports, deleted the partnership and
re-established it and everything started working. To reassign the ports, I
went into My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Ports
(COM & LPT) -> Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM10) -> Properties ->
Port Settings -> Advanced -> COM Port Number and changed the port to COM5
(ignoring the warning about it being in use by another device).

I'm not sure how Windows decides what COM port to assign, but I do know that
I was using a USB to RS232 serial device a while back and every time I
plugged it in, it would assign itself a new COM port, without recycling a
COM port number that it was previously using. I unplugged/replugged the
thing enough to move beyond COM9. I'm still not sure how to recapture those
old COM ports, if anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated, however
that's a bit off subject for this forum.

I'm glad it's working for somebody, I just wish it was me too.
My Moto Q still hangs at "Checking Services...", ugh!!!
My "Local Services" (incoming?) port is COM4, and "Client Applications"
(outgoing?) port is COM5. Device Mgr shows both are ok.
Funny thing, as soon as I select the PC to connect to, the Q appears to
connect for less than a second, as evidenced by the icon change in both the
tool tray and the "My Bluetooth Places\Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood". Why is
this connection so TRANSIENT?
I have no trouble connecting to the Q's "Generic Serial" (COM5) via the
neighborhood interface. I can see all the Q's services, transfer files, etc.
The COM5 has no problem staying connected, but COM4 just flakes out and
leaves me hanging in "Checking Services", thus ActiveSync does not kick in.
Anyone?

Rebooting the Q (power off, remove battery for 1 minute, power on) was the
key. Typical Microsoft issue.
