Mouse freezes after sleep

This is a new computer (Vista Home Premium), and I'm still not sure it
happens every time. But commonly when I wake the computer from sleep
mode (using the power button - is there a better way?), the mouse
pointer is frozen.
The keyboard works fine.
The only thing that seems to fix it is shutting down.

You've encountered well known problem with various USB devices in Vista.
The only solution for you may be to unplug your device before putting
the computer to sleep, then plug it back in after wake up.
