Okay, got a brand new laptop, running Vista Business.

Everything's fine, except that there seems to be a "void" in the middle of
the screen where neither the USB optical mouse nor the touchpad mouse will
function.

Incredibly frustrating and I can't find any solutions for it.

Not sure if this is a laptop issue or a Vista issue, since I'm new to both.

Any help gratefully accepted!

A "void" in the screen on a brand new laptop is not normal.
Advice: Return to where you purchased and demand repair or replacement!!!!

The screen is fine, 100% visibility etc, it's just that sometimes (and yes,
it's become an intermittent issue) I can't click buttons or links in this
area in the middle of the screen.

As an example, on a google result page, the first half of an underlined link
shows as a link - the mouse pointer is a pointing finger - but then it
changes to a normal arrow and the link can't be clicked.

Anyone else ever had this issue?

I have the same problem. I can get around it by plugging in mains power or if
I booted up on mains power unplug & plug back in on the rear of the laptop.
Same thing happens on next bootup though.

I've got the exact same problem. I bought two Asus laptops, Vista Home
Premium, and it randomly has this 'void' in the middle-ish of the screen. And
there doesnt seem to be any trigger or reliable fix aside from re-booting.

Out of curiosity, what type of laptop do you have? My two are Asus F3F's.
