Mouse not working after Aug5 update

I'm having a heckuva time with my mouse ever since this morning's update.
Another update came to me this evening, and the mouse works somewhat better.

* I'm on XP SP2.
* I went to my Manufacturer's site and downloaded the original kb/mouse
driver and installed.

There is still something not right. In addition to not moving properly (very
slow and irregular), it takes several clicks before being successful.

Any thoughts?

I do not know what updates you are referring to that came in but
have you tried removing the updates to see if the problem is rectified or
perhaps a system restore to before the problem occurred?

Then reinstall the updates one by one until the problem returns. Then you'll
know which update may have caused the problem and seek further assistance
then.

The other alternative, is perhaps the mouse is ready to keel over.
