Mouse Pointer Disapears

I have Windows Vista Home Edition on my new laptop (Dell Inspirion e1530).
My pointer disapears anytime i move it over an area that allows you to type.
For example, it will not work at all in Microsoft Word. It appears over the
toolbars and i can click on file, edit, etc, however when i want to edit an
existing document or begin a new one the pointer will not show up on the
page. It has basically been a trial and error click process until I find the
place i want the cursor. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a
solution?

You can change the Mouse pointer select icon in Control Panel/Mouse. If the
I-beam pointer is hard to see, you can chose another.

Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer Options>Uncheck "hide pointer when typing"

So besides the above post did we ever solve this issue I have the same
problem in MS Word 2007 the entire mouse diappears when i am typing in
word the mouse disappears completely I only see what looks like an I
icon in place of the mouse is this normal?

Go into Control Panel/Mouse and under "Pointer Options" deselect "hide
cursor while typing."
See if that works.

Pointer options, mouse , control panel ; check/uncheck .
