Mouse is sticking in VISTA again

Hi,

I had this problem 5 months ago and got a soultion for it from someone
online, but it some how has happened again and I can't find the original
solution.

My Problem.
I use an optical mouse in VISTA, and the cursor "sticks" for several seconds
at a time on screen, it just gets stuck on the screen, then after about 5
seconds it frees up. It happens several times an hour.

I'm 100% certain it has nothing to do with the mouse. Like I said, someone
on one of the online forums told me what to do to correct this once before
and it definitely worked. Unfortunately, my computer recently got sort of
're-configured' and I fear it undid the original correction.

I recall the person who origianlly offered the solution had directed me to
select something in Windows properties and then "un-check" or turn-off one
of the boxes if that makes sense.

I realize this is vauge, but for exampley it was a similar type of procedure
that you would go through if you were to open the properties of a windows
document and check or uncheck read-only.

This definitely corrected the problem but I cannot find the bookmark to the
soultion that this wise person gave me.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Much appreciated.

Justin

Hi Justin.

After several weeks trying to solve this problem, even reformatting,
replacing the power supply, cables, memory sticks, and more,
I believe I found the origin of the problem. And it seems to be related
to Vista.

Go to > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options > check the
"High Performance" option and then click the blue line underneath that
reads:
"Change Plan Settings" a new windows will appear, click the blue line that
reads:
"Change Advanced Power Settings", the "Power Options Advance Settings"
appear and you should click the "+" mark on "Hard Disk", then click on
"Turn off hard disk after", and set to "Never".

My several HD are all SATA, and when Vista shuts them down automatically,
the SATA do not restart immediately, and this is seen as a temporary freeze.

Since I entered these new settings, it's been working fine for a few days
now.

Good Luck
Willy

I see you posted that message under Vista Freeze Problems Solved as well.

Vista hasn't been been freezing my computer, only the cursor has been
sticking on my screen.

The original solution that I'd mentioned wasn't related to the hard-disk,
but I appreciate your input. I will certainly check out your suggesion, but
I think it may have to do with something else.

Thanks for your suggestion

Justin
