Give details:

1. What patch?
2. What mouse make/model?
3. From where is the blocking coming? Please provide the exact text of
any error/blocking message.

Malke thanx for the quick reply ok I used the following make/model(s): all
wireless:IBM,GENX, DELL, HP,TAYsomething with driver cd/ I did speak to an
IT guy in South Africa and he said to me that microsoft does have a patch for
this particular problem and it is only available from them(true or not I dont
know), I dont receive an error message. Every time I connect the new mouse
the software install and it will work for about 3 to 4 hours after that it
just does not respond any more. I had the drive formatted 5 days ago because
I thought maybe te problem was with he operating system or something. Right
after that it started to do the samething I than got the final upgrade
package (about 8GB) and still that did not solve the problem (flying lessons
for my hardware also does not solve the problem atleast i feel better
afterwards). That is basically the extent of my problem.

Let me see if I've got this right - you attach a mouse (and you've tried
various different mice) to your laptop and the mice work for a while and
then stop working. This happens even on a clean install. We still don't
have a lot to go on but here are some things to check:

1. What kind of connection on the mice? Are they ps/2 (little round
connector) or USB? A combination of both? If the mice are all of one
connection type, what happens if you use a different type?

2. Are there any clues in the Event Viewer? How to start Event Viewer
(MS TechNet) - http://tinyurl.com/2jejzc

3. What "final upgrade package"?

Malke I really appreciate the help I am a Multi Media Specialist ask me about
graphics ect. I followed your link to event viewer and followed half the
steps at which stage I was lost. There is critical errors ect. i know you can
remote connect to sort out a particular problem. If you can do it with out
compromising any of your personal info to assist me I am willing to do it.
The particular update I am talking about is a 5 cd package which says final
vista upgrade.

I'm sorry but I would never remote connect into anyone's computer except
for clients and family/friends. You're still not giving me enough
information. I know it's hard when this isn't your area of expertise -
don't ask *me* much about multimedia! - so here are some questions for
you to answer.

1. What kind of computer do you have? All I know is that it is a laptop.
Tell me:

a. The make and model of the laptop.
b. What operating system came preinstalled on it.
c. Go to Control Panel>System and tell me what the processor is, its
speed, and how much RAM you have.
d. The approximate age of the laptop.

2. If you upgraded the laptop from (for ex.) XP Home to Vista Home
Premium, from where did you get the upgrade? Did you order it from the
laptop mftr. or get it from somewhere else?

3. If you upgraded the laptop, did you remember to then install all the
new drivers for Vista? You would get these drivers from the laptop
mftr.'s website for your specific model laptop.

4. Are the mice ps/2 (little round connector) or USB? Have you tried
some of each?

5. Did the problem ever occur when the laptop had the original operating
system (XP?) on it? Or did they start immediately after installing
Vista? If the problems occurred some time after installing Vista, what
changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

Answer as completely as you can and that should give us a starting point.

That was helpful, thanks. The way to test if your USB ports are working
is to attach some other USB device and do some of the suggested steps
below. You may not be having a mouse-specific problem at all. It is not
unusual for new machines to have faulty hardware; in fact, if hardware
is going to fail it will either do so quite quickly (sometimes even out
of the box) or go for years. Here are some ways to test what is going on.

1. Back up your data and restore the computer to factory condition. You
will have either received recovery disks from Toshiba or there is a
special partition on the hard drive with the recovery image. Refer to
the laptop manual or look on Toshiba's support site for your specific
model machine as to how to restore to factory condition. If the laptop
exhibits the same symptoms after the restore to factory condition and
before installing anything else, you know it's a failing motherboard and
should contact Toshiba tech support for repair/replacement.

2. Another way to test if this is a software (Windows) or hardware
problem is to boot the computer with Knoppix, a Linux distro that runs
from CD. If the USB ports don't work under Linux, you know it's
hardware. Here's how to get and use Knoppix:

You need a computer with a fast Internet connection and third-party
burning software. Download the Knoppix .iso and create your bootable cd.
Then boot with it. You may need to change the boot order of your
computer in the BIOS so the first boot device is the optical drive.

http://www.knoppix.net

3. If you can't do #1 or #2, then you can try doing a System Restore to
when things worked. Obviously this will be fruitless if the problem is
hardware. To run System Restore, go to the Start Orb and in the Start
Search box type "System Restore" without the quotes. System Restore will
appear in the Programs result. Click on it, allow the UAC prompt, and
follow the wizard.

In the meantime, use the touchpad instead of a mouse.
