The old adage is true: you get what you pay for. And this thing is free.

*If* somehow you've actually got a working, version 1 (as opposed to having
the typical useless icon and executable file taking up space but mysteriously
not working at all) -- good luck with the Service pack installation updating
it to 2.0. And *if* you somehow managed to beat all odds and are dealing
with version 2.0, trying to update it to 2.1, guess what? Another impossible
dream awaits you. Oh, and you can't update any of this stuff yourself.
Microbrain wants us to leave it to them.

The ONLY way Microsoft lets you to update MovieMaker is by turning automatic
updates on and letting your computer/Microsuck do all the work. Trouble is,
that probably won't even work, since the version 2.0 is somehow too stupid to
recognize 2.1 as *newer*. Why the heck can't the user install this update
himself? Thanks for the faith in our abilities, Microshat.

A software company only ofering the "leave your automatic updates on" option
is kind of like a restaurant saying, "lend us your plates, silverware, and
table tonight, and tomorrow you can come enjoy a nice meal."

Why is mm so jacked up Microdirt can't even put the update to it on their
website? Bill Gates' janitor must have written Movie Maker.

Poor product. Poor service.

mm 2.0 is available on the net in various places.
Here's one link:
http://web.coehs.siu.edu/Utilities/Graphics/Video/

look for mm20enu.exe
version 2.1 is only availble as part of the
XP sp2 installation.

The same thing is ****ing me off right now. When I installed windows I chose
not to install windows movie maker (as I did not have a camera.) Now I do
have a camera and I want it. So I google for it and get a MS page telling me
I have to get it as part of SP2 (which i already have installed) from windows
update. So I go there and surprise surprise it tells me there are no updates
avaiable for me (custom or express.) So now I'm stuck. Why the hell cant I
just download an installer for it? At the very least I should have been
warned when installing windows that not installing Move Maker was a permanent
decision. This is poor. Really poor. Anyway i'm off to search for a free
movie editor that can be downloaded.
