i have recently just upgraded my XP machine to a Vista machine and
before i installed Vista i transferred a lot of backup files to a spare
drive "E:".

the problem is, i cannot actually move any of the folders themselves, i
can move the files around inside but when i try to move a folder nothing
happens, not even an error msg!

when i right click them they are all labelled as read-only, i dont know
if this is the problem or not but please help! =D

Hi,

"Read only" is not the problem, that attribute only applies to files. While
it appears on folder properties, it doesn't actually apply. What you likely
have is an ownership issue, as the folders are "owned" by your account from
the XP installation. Right click the folder and select properties, then go
to the security tab. Click advanced, then go to the ownership tab. Click
edit and use this dialog to change ownership to the account you use in
Vista. Enable the line for the changes to apply to all objects and
subcontainers, then apply it. It may take some time to complete. Exit the
security dialog and you should then be able to move the folders.
