It would be really nice yes since I use the account for work and my imporeted
messages are now separate from all new messages received/sent - I had 1
folder for each client - now I have 2.

When is the storage files used other than for the imported emails? Once I
have moved all the files out of the storage folders, does storage do
anything?

Lots of things. Off the top of my head:

(1) Storage folders are the home of Drafts, Sent items and Deleted items
for newsgroup postings. If you like to prepare drafts of posts and edit
them before submitting, this is where they live. If you send a news post,
this is where you'll find it if you want to check what you wrote a month
ago. And if you delete a draft post or a sent item, it will go to the
Deleted items folder under Storage folders until you decide you really want
to get rid of it.

(2) Messages on HTTP and IMAP accounts are stored both locally and on the
server. You may decide that you want to keep a local copy of one of those
messages but delete the one 'in the cloud'. Moving it to a folder under
Storage folders is one way of achieving that.

(3) You can create folders under your POP accounts to sort messages by
subject or sender or date or whatever. However, if for some reason you want
to remove a POP3 account - if it stops working and you have to reinstate
it, or if you change ISP and no longer can use it, for example - then all
those carefully assembled folders and their contents will be removed too.
You can avoid the disaster this might represent by putting messages you
need to keep into folders under Storage folders; they will not be affected
by removing an account.

(4) If you delete a folder, or a message in a folder, under Storage
folders, it will be moved to the Deleted items folder under Storage
folders.

(5) Occasionally, the database will discover a discrepancy between what
messages it thinks are in a particular folder and which ones are actually
there. When it does so, it will put a copy of the misplaced messages into a
folder called Recovered items under Storage folders. When the database has
worked out what went wrong, it will adjust its index so that it points to
where the message actually is and will delete the copy in Recovered items.
This process is normally automatic, but so far the program has not been
able to remove the empty Recovered items folder once its function has been
completed. Unless you delete it manually, it will stay there.

So Storage folders have many functions, both for the internal workings of
the app and for the convenience of users.

Have you tried to move entire folders from Storage Folders back into a POP
account's folder structure?

Hi, Stephen.

No. But I've moved the CONTENTS of a Storage Folder to another folder.
I've even used <Ctrl>+A to select ALL the messages in a Storage Folder and
move the entire lot in a single move, either by drag'n'drop or by
right-clicking on the selected group and using the Move to command.

But don't try to move the folder itself. Just move its contents.

One has to, since the ability to avoid such manual labor has been taken away
by a design gap.

I had the same problem and was able to make things a bit more palatable. For
me, what I didn't like was my imported folders were nested two levels down in
a hierarchy of Imported Folder then Local Folder then my folders. By moving
my folders directly under Storage Folder and getting rid of Imported Folder
and Local Folder it doesn't seem nearly as bad.

I'll also experiment with setting my rules up to send everything to my
Storage Folders. You can right click your Storage Folder and select Move Up
to get it to the top and check all your mail from there.

It really sucks that they didn't provide a way to migrate rules as I had
ALOT of them in OE. I also wish they had custome Quick Views (like Office
version) which would alleviate most all of these problems.
