Help! I need to move old files to my new computer. The old system is
Windows 98 and the new one is Windows Vista. I didn't see anywhere where
that is possible. Is it?

Thank you,

Marcus G. Tibbe

Hi Marcus,

Not through any tools in Vista. The easy transfer tool is designed for NT
systems. Simply copy the files from Win98 to disk or other media and import
them to Vista. Or, if both machines are on the same network, share the
folders in Win98 and copy them across. Or, pull the drive from the Win98
system and slave it in the Vista one and copy them over that way.

If you are moving files, just copy, as in drag and drop them from one system
to the other. You probably have FAT32 file system, which Vista can see. If
on separate computers, you can probably hook up your old hard drive to your
new computer, then drag and drop the files you want from the old drive to
the new one. If you have the drivers for USB on your Win98, then you could
use a USB flash drive to move the files.

File system is irrelevant over a network, you can copy files from 98
(Windows 3.1 for that matter) to a Vista system's NTFS hard drive over a
network with no problems at all.
