I have Vista Ultimate w/sp1 and I can play mpg files fine until I install
Adobe Premiere Elements. After I install Elements I can double click an mpg
file MP11 will open however nothing will play and no errors pop up. I have
completely reformatted and reinstalled Vista done all the updates and still
with Premiere Elements installed I can not play MPG files, uninstalled they
play fine. I do not have any other media players etc installed and I have
contacted Adobe who says it is a Microsoft problem. Please help - thanks.

You will most likely need elements 6.

4 had some issues with Vista and Adobe would not issue an update. I had to
go with 6

Thanks but version 4 is the newest one out? 6 is the latest version of
Photoshop Elements which is what I have. I am talking about Premiere
Elements. Thanks

When I open WM11 and do the tech support information and look through it the
only thing I see different is:
video MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Video Decoder ad2mcdsmpeg.ax 1.0.0.75

and

audio MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Audio Decoder ad2mcdsmpeg.ax 1.0.0.75

What did they say was wrong on the Microsoft side?

Loosely it sounds like the association was reset(?).

I wonder if the Adobe MainConcept MPEG decoder is overriding the Microsoft
decoder and causing problems? They can specific MERIT_DO_NOT_USE or that
sort of thing so as not to cause that issue.
