Here's an answer to your question:
I am Stan & an EE+ME engineer by trade. But one of my "extra-curriculum"
hobies is writing comedy.
The astonishing fact, however, I came to USA at 20 when your brain is
"hard-wired" & some people never get rid of an accent or absorb a culture
based on an different subfamily of languages.
I don't want to name the country I came from (NOT Poland, and not ethnically
Russian, etc. despite last name) but it's not like e.g. someone speaks
German and they easily learn English as the 2 are related, or
Spanish/Italian/French-born people learn each other - these 3 are related.
But I managed to fuse with American culture & English so well, that hell -
my writings get noticed.
I should mention I saved a 21-year old girl from a liekly suicide by mere
writing.
OK OK now I sound "PRETENTIOUS" or "SELF-PROMOTING".
But it's a fact I love writing since 26. Why would you care?
BECAUSE HATED, DESPITED, ABHORRED IT UNTIL THEN.
Too long to explain, but in that country as many Techies I despised art,
fashion, writing, & other arty things.
Then it reversed.
AND THE CREDIT GOES TO CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK.
So? You see a person revolted upside down.
Now I suffer from Diarhhea of the Mouth & it's happening in a foreign
language - in English.
Who would think back in 1990's when my HighSchool English teacher said "only
thru my corpse you will pass English exam"
Well, I should say her English was probably like a trash can versus mine 5
years later.
OK now calm down, I am a joker besides designing hard-core engineering
projects.
