Yes, The Windows Mobile 5.0 Device has replaced the Serial over USB
implementation we had earlier with a newer device/desktop networking solution built on Remote NDIS, which upon desktop connection registers as a new Local Area Connection. The device will then assign an IP address to itself and the desktop. In your case it seems that you don't even get the correct IP address assigned to the desktop - Seems like it is timing out and then you are gettign an Auto IP address. Can you cradle your device and then open a command window and after say a minute or two type "ipconfig" and paste as the output? Also - in case you can get us a network trace of the traffic between the device and desktop, it would help alot - you can use sniffers like ethereal to capture this. Hi Chris,
Is there a way to figure out which software firewall is preventing the connection? I am sure its not Norton, as my config is perfect (I tried even disabling norton). Delete the partnership before you connect the device. The only way you'd lose your contacts on the desktop is if you deleted the contact on the device before connecting it. Paul T. Pears that this was his thread as he is the op according to my reader ;-) I would add that if the contacts and other data are as important as you indicate, it would be worth it to run a backup to memory card before you begin even if you have to purchase a backup utility. Unfortunately, wm5 does not allow selecting more than a single contact as with earlier os's you can select all and "beam" them to another pda or pc/laptop with ir or bluetooth. Pretty sure the JasJar had "XBackup" in the start/programs folder... be
worth taking a look. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

Paul - I guess you havent seen the entire post are you are confused.
Its my post and I rightfully added another to my original post. There is no hijacking involved. One issue is protecting the data, but my major concern is about AS not getting paired. Thanks, Suresh Nallan "Paul G. Tobey [eMVP]" wrote: > Please don't hijack other people's threads. > > Delete the partnership before you connect the device.
