I have tried numerous times to install IE6 but the installation is always
unsuccessful.
I have WIN ME.
Using Setup (ie6setup.exe) the process gets about 91% finished,
(around the time it is installing the Advanced Authoring components) and
then it gives me an error message: "Setup was unable to install all the
components. Please close all applications and try running Setup again."
The Help button yields this further info: "It appears you have the correct
setup files, but the installation failed. Try closing down all other programs
and try running Setup again. If that still does not work, contact Microsoft
Product Support Services for additional help."
Thus my question here: What do I need to try next?

There are two links that may assist.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303399
You Cannot Finish Installing or Upgrading Internet Explorer
Windows NT, WinMe, Win98 & Win2000
You receive one of the following error messages:
Setup was unable to download all the required components for this installation.
Please try Setup again, and select Resume Setup.
-or-
Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all applications and try
running Setup again.
-or-
Setup was unable to download all the required components for this installation.
The computer stops responding (hangs) during the installation.

Have a look through, especially response 4, 5 & 6
I am trying to upgrade Windows ME system from IE 5.5 to IE 6.0. When I download the
file and go to setup for IE6setup, I get an error message stating "Setup was unable
to install all components. Shut down those and reinstall."

Thanks for the info. Moving the IE "Uninstall" files to a temp folder worked
perfectly.
Hope this info can help someone else.
