MS Java -- Don't want the Update; Want to Kill it Off

I'm being offered an update to MS Java Machine for my XP Home. I don't want
it. I don't want MS Java at all. Once I saw some instructions on how to
remove all of MS Java -- but I can't find them now.

Is this the right group for me to ask how to do that? Presumably then the
update would not be offered again.

Who/what is offering you "an update to MS Java Machine"? What's the name or
the KB article of this update?

Is C:\Program Files\Sun Java <=this folder present on the machine?

I just double-checked: Windows Update scans and gives me a list, including
this:
http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind....aspx?ln=en-us

816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)

I don't want the update and I don't want MS Java. I have unchecked the
entires for MS Java in IE6 > Advanced Options. Do I understand correctly
that as long as those entries are there, even unchecked, that there is MS
Java still on my XP Home? If so, I'd like to kill it off.

I'll wait to get Sun Java until I'm finished with this task.

Yes, that is correct. Here's a link to Sun's kill off instructions:
http://java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml
You don't have to first kill off MS java and then get Sun java,
but it will do no harm if you insist upon doing it that way.
Method #2 is effective. MS java will be gone if you follow it.

Thank you for the link to the instructions! I just prefer to have only one.
I'll go to work on it now.

Thanks for confirming that
http://java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml
has an effective method for uninstalling the MS java VM.

That's MS Virtual Machine, not "MS Java Machine".
