The last couple of days we have experienced several of our PC's failing
during bootup.
During bootup there is an error message displayed about "Webscanx.exe
error ... instruction 0x000000 ... could not read".
After that, the virusscanner that takes care of scanning web-activities
are disabled.

We have found that uninstalling the MS patch no. 893803 (Windows installer
3.1) makes the webscanx program work again!
We have also found that the above patch is not even a security related
patch - as in it should not have been downloaded through "Automatic
updates".

I hope that Microsoft will react quickly and solve the problem with their
patch no. KB893803 - either they remove it from the "Automatic updates",
they redeploy a version that does not break "Webscanx.exe" or they talk to
McAfee about them making a patch.

Hi DevelopIT,

Thanks for the "heads-up" about that issue.

The problem that you're experiencing with Windows Installer 3.1 and WebScanX
is known to McAfee as it is documented in their Knowledgebase:
https://knowledgemap.nai.com/phpclie...%20be%20closed

If you would like to express to Microsoft your comments and concerns about
this issue, you could submit them using their Contact Us page:

Regards,
