MS patch 936357 making PCs unbootable?

My computer ( Core 2 Duo E6700 running Vista Ultimate 32 bit) suddenly had a
series of freezes and then locked up at boot time, where it remains - can't
even get into the BIOS settings. I had though therefore concluded that this
was probably a mobo fault, EXCEPT that I just read on The WindowsSecrets.com
site:

"Microsoft's patch for Intel's Core 2 Duo chips, patch 936357, is locking up
people's computers and making them unbootable."

I can't get in to the article and get the enigmatic message "Column
'headline' in field list is ambiguous". I know the feeling.

The question is: Is this a known problem and how can I get it sorted? I'd
like to try this before replacing motherboards etc.

I have this patch on my E6700 with Vista Ultimate and have no problems.

It installed on my Pentium 4 HT before I could stop it and no problems...
but others have had many.
M$ provides free update support.

Thanks Annie & Peter for getting back.

Hmm... seems to me that it may be my mobo after all. I got to read the
article eventually and the problems seems to involve non-Core 2 Duo chips.

Is there a history of problems with Core 2 Duo ones also?

Not that I'm aware of. But Googling the KB number does bring up a lot of
hits. I haven't had time to read very many I'm afraid.

I had to laugh at this line in the article:

"Today's Windows-based BIOS-flash programs make updating your BIOS
relatively painless."

Unless you have a Dell, though the upside there is you stand a good chance
of getting a new motherboard out of it.
