Hi.

PLEASE! Is there a way to stop Windows Update nagging me I have masked
updates? I start feeling I'm taken for an idiot (top of it: by my own PC!)
though I perfectly know what I'm doing. And that's quite irritating!

I suppose the only way out is to disable Automatic Updates and do Windows'
stuff manually? Is it MS new policy: nagging people till they get bored?
They won't incline people in buying Windows. For sure.

Suggestion: add a checkbox for non-clueless people "I'm aware and do know
what I'm doing. I won't sue Microsoft whenever I get a failure, I swear".

TIA.

Vince;
If you don't want to be notified, Turning Off Automatic Update in System
Properties is the way to do it.

Odd that such a clueful person was unable to figure that out
for himself...

For every single individual update, uncheck the update, then click on the
"Don't show me this update again" checkbox when offered the option. Or you
can directly hide them from the WU site itself.

For the malicious software removal tool; once you accept the license for the
February version, it will automatically run once each month with other
automatic updates and won't nag you again.

The easy way to get rid of having to run the tool is to add this to a batch
file and run:

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT" /v "Version" /t REG_SZ /d
"F8327EEF-52AA-439A-9950-CE33CF0D4FDD" /f

Take Care,
Will

Did I say that?

Odd that people who are MS-Prone always tend to consider their peers like
idiots. Finally this is probably the way things are going to be under
Windows and following MS...

Replay

1st: I don't want to avoid notifications.
2nd: I want windows update to stop *nagging* me I have a masked update for I
know I have masked it. So it's useless to remind it every single day.

Disabling notifications is like shooting mosquitoes with a flak cannon...
IMHO.

Hope this is now clearer in everyone's head.

Thanks, John. I did indeed check this option. However WU still warned me
everytime. Note that I had to reboot for the feature to be taken into
account. As I have a laptop I don't want to reboot and use hibernate most of
the time.

Well, this is precisely what I don't want. I don't need the removal software
as I already have mine. So I just wanted WU to stop warning me I had masked
the removal tool. I suggest it be a non mandatory update. I recon it has
been added for people's convenience but the fact that WU:

1. endlessly repeats there are masked updates
2. endlessly repeats the PC needs to reboot
3. doesn't care when it's told "Reboot later"

is quite annoying. I think the interface has to be enhanced to prevent such
repeated - hence boring -behaviour. This leaves a bad feeling about that.

Thanks, Will. I'll try that.
