MS update causes WCESMgr.exe application to fail

Hi

Have used activesync 4.5 faultlessly including on XP pro SP3 since it was
issued until a recent automatic update. Now getting the dreaded message:

WCESMgr.exe: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).

Have tried an uninstall (and deletion of active sync folder and setup file),
fresh download of setup file and re-install to no avail.

I am almost certain this has been caused by a recent automatic update so
suspect the solution will be a further MS update - can anyone tell me if MS
are looking into this or where I can find that out. Reluctant to mess with
otherwise stable system by uninstalling updates etc

Regards

Joe Wall

Hi Joe,

Are you using any firewall software? It might be blocking ports that is
preventing a successful connection between the PC and the mobile device.

Hi Raj

Thank you for your response. For quite a while prior to and since the
problem (that I feel certain followed a recent MS Automatic Update) I have
been using Norton Antivirus 2009.

The problem is before even attempting a connection between the PC and the
mobile device. Just trying to run Activesync results in the message:

WCESMgr.exe: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).

Incidently I also have a partnership between the device and work PC (that
uses XP SP1) and that continues to work fine so I am baffled

Any thoughts wold be much appreciated

Hi Joe,

I would suggest shutting the Antivirus for a short while and attempt
connecting to rule out the possible cause. A quick search on the error code
resulted in a solution someone posted who was facing similar issues -
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...1b17251b14a205

If you decide to try it, do post your results.

Thanks!

Hi Raj

Resolved - I did a restore using Ghost and then installed the updates one at
a time with no problems. I guess a file must have become corrupt first time
around but is fine now

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond - I will close this subject once
you have noted this post
